About

From Venice, with notes.

I'm Elio Ministeri. I live and work in Venice, where I run hospitality businesses and build small Italian brands.

Living here, you notice that the most successful Italian companies rarely play the growth game. They make fewer things, charge more and stay around for generations. This channel is my notebook: every week I take one company apart and look for the decision that made it.

The palette

Four colours, all from Venice.

  • Inchiostro

    #141414 · Background and text

Ink. The colour of a printed page, not of a screen. Almost black, never pure black.

  • Pietra d'Istria

#EEE9E0 · Light background, text on dark

The pale stone from Istria that Venice used for its palaces, bridges and stairs. Warm, not white.

  • Rosso Tiziano

    #8F2A1E · The only accent

The deep red of Titian's Venetian paintings. Used once per composition: one word, one number, one dot.

  • Fumo

    #5F5A53 · Secondary

Smoke. For labels, rules and everything that should step back.

The type

Bodoni, from Parma.

Titles and numbers are set in Bodoni Moda, a modern revival of the typeface designed by Giambattista Bodoni, the printer who worked in Parma at the end of the 1700s. High contrast, hairline serifs: Italian, editorial, a little couture.

Everything else is Inter, a quiet sans serif built for screens, so the two never compete. Serif for the idea, sans for the information.

The rules

Less, on purpose.

  1. 1

    One number or three words

A thumbnail is not a sentence. If it needs explaining, it is not a thumbnail.

  2. 2

    Red on one word only

The accent works because it is rare. Two red words cancel each other out.

  3. 3

A real face, looking at you

No stock photos, no shocked expressions.

  4. 4

    No third-party logos

Brands are named in text. The work is analysis, not borrowed prestige.
